Hospitals in Blackpool are controlled by a Trust. Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Hospitals National Health Service Foundation Trust was established on December 1, 2007 under the National Health Service (NHS) Act 2006.
In October 2010, the Trust was awarded teaching hospitals status and changed its named to Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in recognition of this.
On April 1, 2012, the Trust merged with the community health services of the former NHS Blackpool and NHS North Lancashire.
Also, on October 31, 2018, Lancashire Community Health Services transferred to the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust.
On March 20, 2017, the Trust’s subsidiary company BFW Management Limited (Atlas) began trading to provide the Trust’s estates services.
The Trust is situated on the west coast of Lancashire and operates within a regional health economy catchment area that spans Lancashire and South Cumbria, supporting a population of 1.6 million.
Also, the Trust is a provider of specialist tertiary care for Cardiac and Hematology services across this region. The Trust does not operate outside of the United Kingdom.
The Trust provides a range of acute services to the 352,000 population of the Fylde coast health economy and the estimated 18 million visitors to the seaside town of Blackpool.
Since April 1, 2012, the Trust also provides a wide range of community health services to the 445,000 residents of Blackpool, Fylde, Wyre and North Lancashire.

Royal Blackburn Hospital
Royal Blackburn Hospital offers medical treatment to many of the residents of East Lancashire including enhanced recovery for bowel surgery and emergency care for children and adults.

Blackpool Victoria Hospital
Blackpool Victoria Hospital, known locally as The Vic, is the main hospital for Blackpool and the Fylde Coast in Lancashire, England.
It is managed by the Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The hospital was originally located on Whitegate Drive and was opened as the Blackpool Hospital in 1894.
It became the Blackpool Victoria Hospital by consent of Queen Victoria when it was enlarged in 1898.
The hospital departments include Accident and Emergency, the Macmillan Cancer Suite, Maternity and Gynae, a cardiac unit and intensive care.
The Lancashire Cardiac Centre is situated at the hospital; the unit provides specialist cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery services for Lancashire and Cumbria

Clifton Hospital
Clifton Hospital is a community unit that provides sub-acute and fast-stream inpatient and day hospital care for older people.
Clifton Hospital in-patient Wards provide a rehabilitation service for patients that are transferred from an acute hospital such as Blackpool Victoria Hospital or from their own home by one of the community health teams supporting them.
The hospital has four wards consisting of 24 beds each bringing the total number of beds at the hospital to 96.
Each of the wards provide a nurse/therapy led holistic pathway for inpatient rehabilitation to people who are transferred to it for a period of rehabilitation or as part of a complex discharge planning process.
Patients receive input from the multi-professional team to return home independently or with support from social services or care agency.
Some patients may transfer from Clifton Hospital to care homes for ongoing care.
The approach utilized at Clifton Hospital is person centered, comprehensive and cohesive to enable the people of Blackpool and the Fylde coast to remain as independent as possible within the community.

Spire Fylde Coast Hospital
