  1. Louisiana State University (LSU)

As one of only 33 veterinary schools in the U.S., the mission of Louisiana State University (LSU) Vet Med is to improve and protect the lives of animals and people through superior education, innovative research, and compassionate care.

They have three departments;

The Department of Comparative Biomedical Sciences conducts basic and translational research in diverse areas of biomedical sciences including, cancer biology, cardiovascular disease, developmental biology, neurosciences, and toxicology.

They seek to understand the normal regulation of physiological and cellular processes, which are dysfunctional in disease states.

Understanding these mechanisms may offer novel approaches for therapeutic intervention.

The Department of Pathobiological Sciences provides teaching and training in bacteriology, epidemiology, immunology, parasitology, pathology, and virology.

Faculty are involved in all levels of the professional curriculum, providing lecture and laboratory experiences in bacteriology, mycology, immunology, epidemiology, pathology, parasitology, community health, and virology, as well as instruction in the practical application of necropsy techniques, all using cases received from the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and the Louisiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory.

Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences faculty members instruct veterinary students, interns, and residents in the art and science of veterinary medicine, undertake clinical research for the benefit of both animals and humans, and provide specialized care for animal patients from Louisiana and surrounding states.

To obtain your DVM, you must complete a four-year program. Their program is divided into Phase I and Phase II.

Phase I consists of lectures and labs, including intensive instruction in comparative anatomy and a clinical skills lab.

Phase II is the more hands-on instruction as you move into their Veterinary Teaching Hospital for your clinical rotations.

The Louisiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Lab is a full-service AAVLD-accredited laboratory.

Housed in the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, LADDL services the people of Louisiana and surrounding states by providing animal disease diagnostic services to agricultural and general communities.
