An excellent dental hygiene program is offered by Missouri Southern State University, which also excels in teaching and community service.

The dental hygiene curriculum consists of a series of lessons. The student must maintain a grade of 75% or above in the laboratory sections and lecture courses after being accepted into the dental hygiene program in order to move on to the next dental hygiene course.

A two-year Associate of Applied Science degree or a one-year certificate are also options available to students (A.A.S.).

Through intensive lab and practical instruction at community clinics, private practices, and the UMKC School of Dentistry, you will develop your abilities.

Students will be ready to take the national certifying examination offered by the Dental Assisting National Board and will be qualified to work as trained dental assistants and certified expanded-function dental assistants when they enter the profession.

Additionally, students will sit for the Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) exam offered by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) as part of the program.

The program in dental assisting is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.

  1. Dental Assisting – State Technical College of Missouri

Every year in July, they begin their 11-month program to get you ready for the Certified Dental Assisting exam, which leads to a nationally recognized credential provided by the Dental Assisting National Board.

Among the many skills you’ll acquire are moving equipment, combining restorative materials, taking impressions, teaching oral hygiene, applying coronal polishes, and exposing and assessing X-rays.

Following graduation, you’ll also be qualified to apply for Expanded Function Dental Assisting Permits that have been recognized by the Missouri Dental Board.

The OTC Dental Assisting program offers training in intra-oral dental procedures as well as hands-on patient care opportunities. Students will learn how to help dentists in chairside care, teach patients on oral hygiene, and carry out laboratory procedures necessary for dental therapy.

Students who satisfy the criteria of the curriculum are eligible to sit for the national exam to become Certified Dental Assistants (CDA).

The only program in Southwest Missouri that has been granted accreditation by the Commission on Dental Accreditation is the dental assisting program at Ozarks Technical Community College.

Students who complete the two-year Associate of Applied Science in Dental Hygiene program are prepared to provide comprehensive dental hygiene patient care.

The Dental Hygiene Program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association.
