2. School of Pharmacy – University of Ghana

The University of Ghana School of Pharmacy (UGSOP) was founded in 2007 as part of the College of Health Sciences.

The National Accreditation Board and the Pharmacy Council both accredited the school to offer courses leading to the award of the Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree.

UGSOP relocated to Legon in 2011, taking over the space previously occupied by the Biochemistry Department.

Though still insufficient, the relocation improved the school’s facilities.

For students’ practical courses, the School of Pharmacy has laboratories for General Pharmaceutics, Microbiology, Pharmacology and Toxicology, as well as Pharmacognosy and Herbal Medicine.

It also has a faculty research laboratory. The school has clinical rotation agreements with Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, 37 Military Hospital, and the Police Hospital, among others.

Also, it has special arrangements with a number of community pharmacies and pharmaceutical companies to use their facilities for student training in community and industrial pharmacy.

5. Family Health Medical School

Family Health University College began as a Diagnostic Centre in a garage at 51 Guggisberg Street, Korle Bu in 1997, and was later relocated to a rented premise on Zoti Road as Family Health Hospital.

It was moved to its permanent location at Teshie in 2007, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and directly across from the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre.

The Nursing and Midwifery School was established in 2009 in response to the hospital’s growing need to train its own health personnel.
