In order to develop professional nurses who will serve people holistically in a caring capacity in a complex global society, the Division of Nursing offers a demanding curriculum built on the liberal arts.

The nursing faculty at UMFK serves as a vital element of their parent institutions and provides graduates with a transformative nursing education so they can serve as nurse clinicians, researchers, and educators to address the needs of people in Maine and beyond in terms of health.

A professional baccalaureate nursing program with accreditation is offered at the University of Maine at Fort Kent, and it is based on the liberal arts and sciences.

Both the University of Maine at Fort Kent and the Presque Isle campuses offer the Accelerated BSN degree program.

Students acquire knowledge and expertise in the social, behavioral, biological, and nursing sciences throughout their academic careers.

In order to be accepted into the Accelerated BSN program, students must hold an earned undergraduate Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution or college and have a cumulative earned GPA of at least 3.2 on a scale of 4.0 for all college coursework.

On rare occasions, students who are enrolled in the standard program track later decide they would prefer the accelerated program track.

The student must meet all ABSN program entry standards at the time of acceptance and must not fail any courses after matriculating at UMFK in order for this transfer of program tracks to be permitted.

  1. University of Southern Maine

The faculty of the School of Nursing at the University of Southern Maine has created an accelerated program that results in a B.S. in nursing in 15 months of full-time study because they are aware of the desire of people with baccalaureate and higher degrees in fields other than nursing to become nurses.

Also, the undergraduate nursing courses taken by students in this program are built upon their prior academic and professional experiences.

The National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses is open to program graduates (NCLEX-RN).

A baccalaureate degree from a regionally approved institution or college is required for admission to this program.
