  1. Louisiana State University Health Sciences

The faculty of the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center offers the Career Alternative RN Education (CARE) program of study leading to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.

This program is intended for people who have a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from an approved college or university who want to become nurses.

Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center – Shreveport serves as an off-campus instructional site (OCIS) for the LSU Health Science Center School of Nursing’s CARE program (LSUHSC–S).

The program is finished in less than two years and is broken into five blocks of sixteen weeks each (which may be sub-divided into smaller modules).

Multiple educational strategies and modalities will be utilized to maximize learning. Mastery of content will be monitored by tests prepared by a national testing service to determine a student’s progress in the program.

Southeastern’s School of Nursing is committed to providing the highest level learning opportunities for students in an intellectually stimulating environment that incorporates clinical practice, research and service to the university and the community.

Southeastern has an accelerated option leading to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, which allows the completion of nursing courses in approximately 18 months.

Students completing the program are eligible to take the National Council of State Board Licensing Examination to become a Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN).

Approximately half of the course work will take place on the Hammond campus and the other half will be completed at the Baton Rouge Center.

All required non-nursing prerequisite courses listed on the curriculum sheet must be completed prior to entering nursing courses.

The baccalaureate degree program in nursing at Southeastern Louisiana University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
